Summer Fun!

Angry Birds

A good friend and I took on this cake together for our kids youth conference "Don't be an Angry Bird."  It was a ton of fun to make.  For time sake we started with a Costco sheet cake and then created our the little characters out of fondant.

Blue and Gold Banquet

Christopher designed these stacked presents to go with the birthday party theme for the Blue and Gold Banquet. He made the bow, the stars, and helped color all the fondant. He also helped me make the cake which was vanilla with sprinkles. The filling was vanilla pudding.

The Lorax

The Lorax
Kate's 9th Birthday
I was lucky enough to be visiting my sweet niece on her birthday and jumped at the chance to make her a cake. Both tiers are 4 layers of vanilla butter cake and chocolate mousse filling. It's iced in chocolate buttercream and covered with marshmallow fondant. The Lorax is made out of rice krispies and covered in chocolate and fondant. This project was a fun family affair. My mom made the Lorax, Christopher made the small flowers and rolled the balls, Jacen helped make the filling and their were many others on hand for tasting.

Lots o' Chocolate

The Big Whopper
Dave's 62nd Birthday
When my dad found out I was coming for a visit he quickly requested his birthday cake, eventhough his big day was a month ago. He mentioned that he liked malt balls....so I decorated the cake with a few. The cake is 3 layers of delicous chocolate with roasted marshmallow filling, malted chocolate buttercream and of course a few whoppers to decorate the outside with.

Elmer the Elephant

Elmer the Elephant
Jacen's 4th Birthday
It was a given that my little animal loving boy needed an animal themed cake. One of his favorite books is Elmer the Elephant. The cake is red velvet with cream cheese icing. The feet, ears and truck are rice krispies. I gave in a little and let Elaina help place the squares and make an ear.

Lots of Cakes

Big Cupcake
Elaina's 9th Birthday
Elaina's party was all about cupcakes so she requested another giant cupcake. The colors and design were all her choice.
Tool Box
Christopher's 10th Birthday
Per the birthday boys request its a yellow cake with strawberry filling.
SkateBoard
Hunter's 11th Birthday
This cake is chocolate fudge with chocolate mousse filling. Hunter doesn't like fondant so this cake was done in yellow (his favorite color) buttercream. Elaina and I tried our hand at painting the flames and the board was made out of gumpaste.
Funky Fun
Cheyenne's 13th Birthday
Cheyenne asked me to make her a cake. She sent me several design ideas and this is what we came up with. It's a vanilla cake with chocolate mousse and mini chocolate chips mixed in.

Lily and Rose Wedding Cake

This is vanilla cake with raspberry filling, swiss mergingue buttercream and fondant. Each tier is 3 layers....I love the filling more than the cake so I'm always looking for ways to get in more good stuff. The brides colors were green, burgundy and gold. I had beautiful gold ribbon to go on the cake but I totally forgot about it. The flowers were difficult to color but after seeing the cake at the reception I don't think I did too bad. I made the dogwood flowers late one night when I was frustated with the lilies. I wasn't planning on putting them on the cake but they are actually my favorite part.

Daffodil Cake

I made this cake for a dear friend on her very special day. She loves daffodils and I wanted to give her something beautiful and fun. The bottom tier is white almond sour cream with white chocolate filling.

The middle tier is lemon cake with lemon curd cheesecake filling.

The top tier is chocolate orange cake with chocolate mousse filling...my friend's favorite flavor.

All three tiers are covered in milk chocolate ganache instead of buttercream. This was a first for me and I'm happy with how it turned out.
All the daffodils are made out of a gumpaste/fondant mixture. I was so happy that most of the guest thought they were real or at least silk flowers.

The writing on the back of the cake was a last minute idea....more of a special note for a special family.
